Approved 11/15/2008 Cortland Library Board Minutes Cortland Community Library Board Minutes Place: Cortland Community Library October 15, 2008 Members present: Maxine Divine, Mary Benson, John Francisco, Carol Scidmore and Harlan Hawkins. Absent: Martha Carter and Chris Ferguson . Also present: Barb Coward. Meeting called to order by Harlan Hawkins at 7:14 p.m. September 17th, 2008 minutes were read. Mary Benson made a motion to approve September minutes as amended. Carol Scidmore seconded the motion Voice vote and all in favor. Minutes stand as approved. September 2008 treasurer's report was reviewed. Carol Scidmore made a motion to approve the expenditures of $28,205.75 for September. John Francisco seconded the motion. Roll call vote: John Francisco-aye, Harlan Hawkins-aye, Maxine Divine-aye, Carol Scidmore-aye, Mary Benson-aye, and Harlan Hawkins-aye. Motion carried. The library director's report for September 2008 was presented. Discussion was held. OLD BUSINESS: Hearing of Citizens-Ron Gailey Library planning: Fred Schlipf will hold meetings at the library with the library staff and board on 11/15 and 11/22. 3 year plan - Continue talking. Budget items/changes - Tabled. 2009 Per Capita Grant report has been sent and received. ILA report - Barb Coward is investigating a solution to DVD problem. Books that hold the DVDs are very heavy, and the staff is feeling the affects with wrist injuries. Trustee Workshop was cancelled because of lack of interest. Town Festival & Parade - The library did not participate this year. NIU dogs, made by Custom Stone, arrived unpainted. The dogs will be auctioned to raise money for scholarship fund. Repairs to town sign/replacement parts. Barb Coward investigated and John Francisco will pursue. The cost will come from Office Supplies. Harlan Hawkins made a motion to tentatively put a cap of $1,000 on the cost of the sign repairs. Carol Scidmore seconded the motion. Roll call vote: John Francisco-aye, Maxine Divine-aye, Carol Scidmore-aye, Mary Benson-aye, and Harlan Hawkins-aye. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS Purchases at ILA. The educational Liberty Kids DVDs are too costly for our library. Friends of Cortland Library - No one is attending. TATTLE STRIPS FOR DVDS. Barb Coward will investigate. Money will be moved from Insurance to Office Supplies to cover the cost. Mary Benson made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Harlan Hawkins seconded the motion.
