September 17, 2008
Members present: Maxine Divine, Mary Benson, John Francisco, Martha Carter and Harlan Hawkins. Absent: Carol Scidmore and Chris Ferguson . Also present: Barb Coward.
Meeting called to order by Harlan Hawkins at 7:04 p.m.
August 20th, 2008 minutes were read. John Francisco made a motion to approve August minutes. Martha Carter seconded the motion Voice vote and all in favor. Minutes stand as approved.
July 2008 revised treasurer's report was reviewed. Mary Benson made a motion to approve the expenditures of $16, 985.02 for July. Harlan Hawkins seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Harlan Hawkins-aye, Maxine Divine-aye, John Francisco-aye, Martha Carter-aye, and Mary Benson-aye.
August 2008 treasurer's report was reviewed. Martha Carter made a motion to approve the expenditures of $16,825.30 for August. Maxine Divine seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Harlan Hawkins-aye, Maxine Divine-aye, John Francisco-aye, Martha Carter-aye, and Mary Benson-aye. Motion carried.
The library director's report for August 2008 was presented. Discussion was held.
Hearing of Citizens-Nothing
Summer Reading 2008-400 participants.
Library planner/ideas for the future/redoing 3-year plan -
Many worthy ideas. Change dates, continue the plan and continue successful
Budget items/changes - Tabled.
Requirements for 2009 Per Capita Grant-
Discussed ethics ordinances.
Board members can only give information on political matters, not ask for a vote.
ILA - Barb Coward will be going with book salesman on September 24. Barb is looking for new storage for DVDs other than big books.
Trustee workshop - John Francisco is interested in attending.
Water leak during storms of 9/13&9/14 - 9" of rain and small leak on the floor.
Using Insurance Fund money to fix problems-
Wrist injury from repetitive motions involved with DVD storage and new storage
ideas. Discussed issues.
Board joys and concerns -
Joy-Chris Ferguson had a baby girl.
Concern - Need new letters for big sign in front of Town Hall. Tabled until next
month to get more information.
Town Parade & Festival - October 19, 2008. Tabled
NIU Dogs-Cement and painted and auctioned off for NIU Memorial for shooting
Library banner/paid for by private donations/not tax dollars.
John Francisco made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Maxine Divine seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
