Cortland Library Board Minutes

Place: Cortland Community Library

April 15 2009

Members present: Maxine Divine, Mary Benson, Martha Carter, Chris Ferguson and Harlan Hawkins. Absent: Carol Scidmore and John Francisco. Also present: Barb Coward.

Meeting called to order by Harlan Hawkins at 7:04 p.m.

March 18, 2009 minutes were read. Mary Benson made a motion to approve March 18 minutes. Harlan Hawkins seconded the motion. Voice vote and all in favor. Minutes stand as approved.

March 2009 treasurer's report reviewed. Chris Ferguson made a motion to approve the expenditures of $13,365.38 for March. Martha Carter seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Maxine Divine-aye, Mary Benson-aye, Martha Carter-aye, Chris Ferguson-aye, and Harlan Hawkins-aye. Motion carried.

The librarian's report for March 2009 was presented. Discussion was held.

OLD BUSINESS:

Library planning / Fred Schlipf - No communication.

Hearing of Citizens - None.

Budget Considerations & Unemployment - Discussed.

Town Sign / DCCF Grant - Tabled.

Summer Reading - Discussed. Library will have ten weeks not 12 weeks.

Insurance for Staff - Discussed.

25th Anniversary Event - To be discussed.

Friends of Cortland Library - Cookbook proofread and sent off to be published. Hopefully, will be available for garage sales in May 2009.

LSTA Grants - Discussed in Librarian's Report.

NEW BUSINESS

Seating of new board members (delayed until May due to delay in County canvassing the April election).

Board election of officers (2009-2010) delayed until May.

Marketing - Tabled.

Website-Nikki updates board minutes and new Cortland Website looks better.

Unemployment - Discussed. Harlan Hawkins made a motion to return to reciprocal status and not get involved with unemployment reimbursement claims as Barb Coward once suggested. Martha Carter seconded the motion. Voice vote and all in favor. Motion stands approved.

Staff issues / meetings - Discussed. Staff meeting last Friday - Discussed summer reading. Mary Benson made a motion to budget $27,000 for insurance for employees who work over 30 hours. Harlan Hawkins seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Maxine Divine-aye, Mary Benson-aye, Martha Carter-aye, Chris Ferguson-aye, and Harlan Hawkins-aye. Motion carried.

Policies & Procedures - Tabled.

25th Anniversary Event:

-Library closed July 3rd & 4th

Attendance at event - Please attend

Publicity

Shirt sizes - no but we will wear yellow caps

Schedule for Anniversary Event at shelter house, 10 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Friends of Cortland Library will be asked to bring cupcakes.

Mother Goose Storyteller, 11a.m. & 1p.m. (Maybe request different story second set)

Band hired will play two sets, 6-7 p.m. & 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Dough Brothers will sell pizza.

Families bring sack lunches if staying all day. Drinks, cake, cookies, cupcakes will be provided.

Mary Benson made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Martha Carter seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
