Approved 3/18/2009 Cortland Library Board Minutes Place: Cortland Community Library February 18, 2009 Members present: Maxine Divine, Mary Benson, Carol Scidmore and Chris Ferguson. Absent: Martha Carter, John Francisco, and Harlan Hawkins. Also present: Barb Coward. Meeting called to order by Maxine Divine at 7:10 p.m. January 21, 2009 minutes were read. Mary Benson made a motion to approve January 21 minutes. Chris Ferguson seconded the motion. Voice vote and all in favor. Minutes stand as approved. January 2009 treasurer's report was reviewed. Chris Ferguson made a motion to approve the expenditures of $32, 766.02 for January. Carol Scidmore seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Mary Benson-aye, Chris Ferguson-aye, Carol Scidmore-aye, and Maxine Divine-aye. Motion carried. The library director's report for January 2009 was presented. Discussion was held. TBC installed five new computers and the director's laptop. There are now eight public access computers for patrons. Space is an ongoing issue. OLD BUSINESS: SIRSI - Continuing problems with the system. Library planning / Fred Schlipf - No communication. Hearing of Citizens - None. Budget Items / Changes - Tabled Town Sign - A grant will be written to DeKalb County Community Foundation for a digital sign. Due date for the grant is March 1, 2009. DVD Security System Board Election - Chris Ferguson, Harlan Hawkins, Martha Carter. Summer Reading / Dr. Seuss - Dr. Seuss party will be held March 7 from 1-4 p.m. at the library. Board pictures for website - Tabled. Insurance for staff? Barb Coward will look through the budget for money for staff insurance instead of raises for staff. Planning for 25th Anniversary. The celebration will be held Friday, July 3, 2009 at the park shelter house. Friends of Cortland Library / cookbook. Need additional recipes before March 1, 2009 to get recipes submitted for a discount price on the cookbooks. Friends of Cortland Library plan to sell cookbooks at the time of town garage sales. They will also accept perennials to sell during that time. Grants - - State library grants geared toward reading activities. Reading grant allows buying materials. - Computer classes. Barb Coward found bargain prizes for boys and girls pre-school. NEW BUSINESS 2009 Calendar is not done. Programming ideas and cost were discussed. Marketing / Publicity - Tabled. Policy and Procedures - Tabled. Staff issues / concerns were discussed. Carol Schidmore made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Chris Ferguson seconded the motion.
