Place: Cortland Community Library

Febuary 17, 2010

Members present: Maxine Divine, Mary Benson, John Francisco, Harlan Hawkins, Carol Scidmore, and Martha Carter. Absent: Chris Ferguson. Also present: Barb Coward, Chuck Lanning, and Walter Magdziarz.

Meeting called to order by Harlan Hawkins at 7:05 p.m.

Presentation by Town Board members Chuck Lanning and Walter Magdziarz regarding use of old Cortland Elementary School. Town of Cortland is interested in using a portion of the school for additional offices. There would be 4000 sq. ft. available for use by the library. Lease for 15 years or when a referendum passes to build a new library building. School board would retain ownership and maintenance of the building. There is no air conditioning. Library would need to purchase new shelving. Walter Magdziarz will look into a capital gains fund earmarked for the library and inquire if it could be used to purchase shelving. Chuck Lanning suggested the library board make of tour of the school building before making a decision.

December 16, 2009 minutes read. Mary Benson made a motion to approve December minutes as corrected. Martha Carter seconded the motion. Voice vote and all in favor. Minutes stand as approved.

December 2009 treasurer's report reviewed. John Francisco made a motion to approve the expenditures of $20,465.71 for December. Carol Scidmore seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Martha Carter-aye, Mary Benson-aye, Carol Scidmore-aye, Maxine Divine-aye, John Francisco-aye, and Harlan Hawkins-aye. Motion carried.

January 2010 treasurer's report reviewed. Carol Scidmore made a motion to approve the expenditures of $18,307.77 for January. Harlan Hawkins seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Martha Carter-aye, Mary Benson-aye, Carol Scidmore-aye, Maxine Divine-aye, John Francisco-aye, and Harlan Hawkins-aye. Motion carried.

The librarian's reports for December and January were presented. Discussion was held.

OLD BUSINESS:

Library Planning/Dr. Fred Schlipf - Nothing.

Hearing of Citizens - Chuck Lanning and Walter Magdziarz.

Policies/Per Capita requirements - None.

Friends of Cortland Library - Nothing.

Book Club - Still meeting.

Sign - Working well.

Fiber Optic Grant - Per Capita grant check for $4,700 was received this week.

Remodeling Update - The carpet should be installed in the spring.

Budget Issues - Tentative Budget for 2010-2011 presented and discussed. Mary Benson moved to approve the tentative Budget for 2010-2011. Maxine Divine seconded the motion. Roll call vote: Martha Carter-aye, Mary Benson-aye, Carol Scidmore-aye, Maxine Divine-aye, John Francisco-aye, and Harlan Hawkins-aye. Motion carried.

Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town of Cortland (sign) - Nothing heard.

FOI Act information - Gentleman came to talk to Barb Coward.

Summer Reading 2010 - Topic is 'Scare Up a Good Book'. July 24, 2010 there will be a picnic at the shelter house.
