Website Accessibility Policy

The Cortland Community Library is committed to ensuring accessibility of its website for people with disabilities. All reasonable effort has been made to ensure that the pages of this website are accessible in accordance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The library has adopted the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, Conformance Level "Double-A" for existing and new content produced by our organization. The site developer has read and understands these guidelines so that all new additions to the site will also be compliant. Periodic reviews will be made to assure that nothing has been overlooked.

Actions Taken:

  • Added text descriptions (alt tags) of all images and links throughout the site.
  • Added "skip navigation" link to the top of all of the main pages in order for screen readers to bypass the row of navigation links by jumping to the start of the web page content.
  • Added style sheets for font on the main pages to control the presentation of the site.
  • Confirmed that all site pages have a "doctype declaration" to confirm the specific type of HTML used on the page.
  • Tested the site with "WAVE", a web accessibility evaluation tool, and assured that every page passed.
  • Contacted people in the community that use assistive technologies and asked them to test our website.
