Minutes of January 18, 2017 Cortland Community Library Board meeting:

Present:  Mary Benson, Victoria Haier, Harlan Hawkins and Marie Kornischuk.

Absent:  Martha Carter & Rich Bliss  Also present: Barb Coward

The meeting was called to order at 7:25 by Harlan Hawkins.  The minutes of November 16, 2016 were read and discussed.  Victoria Haier moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Harlan Hawkins.  Voice vote resulted in approval by all.

There was no December 2016 meeting.

The Expenditures and Treasurer’s report about November 2016 was read.  The cost of carpet cleaning was felt to be high.  Mrs. Coward mentioned the problem stains.  Marie Kornischuk moved to accept the November reports, seconded by Mary Benson.  All trustees voiced their approval.

The December Expenditures and Treasurer’s Report was reviewed.  Mary Benson moved to approve these reports, seconded by Marie Kornischuk.  A roll call vote found that all Trustees approved these December financial reports.

There were no citizens to be heard.

Budget revisions were not needed.

Mrs. Coward relayed the Library Staff members thanks for their Christmas “bonus”.

March 10th the LWT group will sponsor its annual “Staff Training” at Faranda’s.   Mrs. Coward, Jessica Bott, and Terry Kammes will attend.

LWT has begun planning Board Trustee trainings for summer (Board role & duties) and early fall (financial matters for Board members).

Mrs. Coward reported that she has sent in the Dollar General Summer Reading Grant application.  She and Mrs. McAllister are working on a RAILS grant for public and school libraries.

The library will co-sponsor a Candidates Night on March 24th.  Cortland candidates who will be on the April 4, 2017 ballot are invited.  Currently only Judy Olsen is running for Library Board.

Mrs. Coward grumbled about HB6630, which seeks to limit any tax growth.  Currently the library levy may grow up to .049% each year, to recapture lost funds.

Mary Benson moved to adjourn, seconded by Marie Kornischuk.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted, Barb Coward
