Library Card

Library Cards and Fees

We now offer the option of a Family Library Card. Families with multiple library users at the same address are encouraged to exchange their existing library cards for one family card that everyone can use. All of your family’s holds, checkouts, renewals and fines will be on one card--much easier to manage!

To Get A Library Card

If You Reside Within the Town of Cortland

Simply bring in a photo id and proof of residence (such as a piece of mail stating your name and address). Children under 18 will need a parent or guardian to obtain a library card.

If You Reside Outside the Limits of the Town of Cortland

Cortland town-residents support the library through their taxes. Non-residents may have a library card by paying an equivalent fee. For renters, this amount is 15% of one month's rent. For homeowners, this amount is .0043% of your EAV calculated as the yearly fee. Please bring the appropriate documentation into the library and we will be happy to help you.

If You Reside Within the Limits of A Town Other Than Cortland

Please visit your "home library" and follow their procedures to get a library card. You will then be able to use that library's card at the Cortland Library if you wish.
